Brass Tacks
Chapter Eight
Marooned
September 7th, 5288
Days since Newhaven burned: 144
Choices have been made in order to shape the fate of Caelum.
After Zadkiel offers everything that anyone could ever want, some step forward, Rashmi, Warner, Valeria, Murphy, Kai, Finley, Carlyle, Jesper, Gen, Vicente, Jay, Sanka, Evening. These are the new members of The Absolute. Here to stay in order to gain everything they ever could want.
Another betrayal. Another split. Morals have changed. The humans are no longer the only problem. Now it's us who are in each other's way.
The remainder of Concord and Talion are given one last chance to stay, then those who remain stubborn are shown to the door, through the void and out into a world ahead. A blinding light meets our eyes as our feet meet the sand of the Pale Desert. Behind us, a buried mansion, with only the roof's tip to show. Gods hiding among us.
The sunlight beats down on us, and the searing heat is nearly unbearable. Miles and miles of sand waits ahead of us, with every unspeakable monster that lives here waiting to have a fresh snack.
Special care must be given to keep our fire elementals from overheating here. Some know the drill, few have lived here, but not this deep, not where the ocean-like sand swallows the toughest of sand ships like the fabled Bermuda triangle from Earth stories.
Zadkiel has oh-so-graciously left a sand glider outside for us to make our way toward the mainland. Almost a mockery of sorts. A head start. And the worst part is that we need it... Beneath the dunes, danger lurks. It's best to have something between us and them.
Create your fate...
Are You Winning, Or Are You Losing?
While The Absolute get their first glimpse of how powerful they can be, the world lies in wait for this new threat. Teamwork, it seems is the key to success as they practice dealing damage to the seemingly most powerful being on Caelum. Maybe even the universe.
Maybe that's not the case much longer. Maybe you are the most powerful. Maybe you are the gods now. And as promised, you will be.
Both side prove that they have found out just how much they can do together. Both very, very dangerous if used for the wrong reasons...
The new Absolute is left to continue practicing, rest, eat, explore, do whatever their heart desires in a safe environment that they so desperately needed for the past 144 days. It feels like it's been forever... Families reunited, wounds and sickness healed, missing pieces restored. This is how it should be, isn't it?
Meanwhile, Talion and Concord are left to fend for themselves.
Zadkiel is no longer watching out for us after the choice we made and it shows. Death is no longer easily reversible, and it was learned the hard way after two losses, and the real energy it takes to bring only one back.
Consequences are harsher. Special goods aren't hiding around for us to get a taste of the godhood we turned down anymore. All we have is us, and the items we've hoarded.
Although...
One last gift is left. A stolen item perhaps.
The new sand glider provided by the ill-mannered stranger M. Saber arrives at a poor old town, Bighorn Valley, right on the border between Hyrum and The Pale desert. Unheard of on any maps. It's a rare place where humans and elementals live in peace among each other.
Tired an exhausted, we grab whatever we have and find somewhere to rest. PENNY picks up a bag from the glider, finding something particularly heavy inside. It glows a gold color from within the bag. Once taken out, it turns out to be the golden book from Zadkiel's mansion.
There's not much saying how it got there. If someone secretly took it and slipped it to us, or if someone stole it from RASHMI, who initially had it before everyone ended up in the vestibule. Either way, this changes everything... Maybe we have a chance now... It's not godhood, but, it's what we've always been capable of with the right instructions.
